Kitija Ozolina ยท A Gentle Mirror
For the mother who is doing everything, and feels like she is barely surviving.
Dear Mother,
You picked this up for a reason.
Maybe you are tired. Maybe you have been tired for a long time, and you thought that was just how it is now. Maybe you cannot explain what is wrong, you just know something is.
This is not a list of things to fix. This is a mirror. A gentle one. Read it slowly. Notice what feels familiar.
And know this, feeling this way does not mean you are failing. It means you have been carrying too much, for too long, without enough support.
You deserve to come back to yourself.
With love, Kitija ๐ค
Before you begin, this is not a test. There are no wrong answers. Just read slowly. Notice what feels true. Even one sign is enough to pay attention to.
Sign 1
You jump at small sounds
A door closes. Someone calls your name. And your whole body reacts like something terrible just happened. You are not too sensitive. Your body has been on guard for so long, it forgot how to feel safe.
Sign 2
You are tired, but rest does not help
You are exhausted. Really exhausted. But even when you sit down, you cannot relax. Your mind keeps going. Your body stays tight. Because something inside you does not feel safe enough to stop yet.
Sign 3
Small things feel way too big
The spilled drink. The repeated question. The mess on the floor. Something inside you snaps. And then you feel terrible about it. But it was never about the mess. Your body had been holding too much, and that was the moment it finally could not anymore.
Sign 4
You feel far away from yourself
You go through the day, but you are not really there. You forget to eat. You do not notice you are cold. Nothing feels like much. This is your body trying to protect you. When life is too hard, we go quiet inside, just to keep going.
Sign 5
You feel annoyed, and you do not know why
There is a low, quiet frustration sitting just under the surface. It does not take much to bring it out. This is not who you are. This is what happens when your body is carrying more than it can hold.
Sign 6
You cannot really be present with your children
They are right there. And you are somewhere else. Thinking about what comes next. What went wrong. What still needs doing. You love them. That is not the question. But a tired nervous system cannot be in two places at once, and it chose survival over presence.
Sign 7
You feel like you have to hold everything together
If you stop, it all falls apart. So you keep going. You push through. You do not ask for help. But holding everything together, all the time, alone, that is one of the heaviest things a body can do.
Sign 8
Crying comes out of nowhere
In the car. In the shower. For no reason you can name. Or maybe you cannot cry at all, even when you feel like you should. Both are the same thing. A body that has run out of room for what it has been carrying.
Sign 9
You feel guilty for resting
A quiet moment appears, and instead of taking it, you fill it. Because rest feels like something you have to earn first. But you were never meant to earn rest. Rest is not a reward. It is how your body stays alive.
Sign 10
You do not feel like yourself anymore
You remember a version of you that felt lighter. More alive. And somewhere along the way, she got very quiet. You are still her. She did not leave. She just got very, very tired.
If you saw yourself in these signs, that matters. Not because something is wrong with you. But because your body has been asking for help for a long time.
The next step is not doing more. It is learning how to come back to yourself, gently, slowly, in a way that actually lasts.
With love, Kitija ๐ค
