Kitija Ozolina · Awareness Mentor for Mothers
Not things to do. Things that start to change, quietly, slowly, when a woman begins to do this work.
Some questions you cannot stop thinking about once you have heard them. Not because they are heavy. Because something in you already knows the answer.
Here are five.
These are not in order. They don't happen on a timeline. You might recognise one you've already moved through, and one you've never had, and one you're right in the middle of.
That's how it works. Not linear. Just. gradually, something shifts.
You start noticing before reacting.
Not always acting differently. Just. a pause appears where there wasn't one before. You hear the tone in your voice a half-second sooner. You feel the heat rising before the words come out. Nothing dramatic changes yet. But something is watching now that wasn't watching before. That's the whole beginning.
Your relationship with guilt changes.
Guilt doesn't disappear. But it stops feeling like the truth. It starts feeling like a message. something worth looking at rather than something to run from or drown in. "I feel guilty about this" becomes: what is this guilt pointing to? Is it pointing at something real I need to address? Or is it an old habit of feeling responsible for everything?
You stop needing your children to be okay in order to feel okay yourself.
This one takes time. It doesn't land all at once. But something starts to shift in the way you hold their hard feelings. You can sit with them a little longer without needing to fix it. You can let them be sad or angry without feeling like it means something has gone terribly wrong. about them, or about you.
Old relationships start to feel different.
Some get closer. Some get harder. Both are normal. and worth saying, because no one warned me about the ones that get harder. When you start to see your own patterns, you start to see them everywhere. Family dynamics that used to feel just like life start to feel like something you can name. That can create distance where you didn't expect it. And sometimes closer connection where you weren't expecting that either.
You start trusting your own feelings again.
Slowly. Not dramatically. But the inner voice that you learned to question. the one that says "this doesn't feel right" or "I need something". starts to feel more reliable. Less like something to override and more like something to listen to. This is what it feels like when a woman starts to come home to herself.
One next step
Look at the five shifts. Ask yourself honestly: which one do I most want, but feel furthest from right now?
That's probably the one the work is pointing toward.
Not to fix it today. Just to know where you are.
I think this is what happens. It happened for me. Maybe something like it will for you.
I'm not done. I don't think "done" is the right word for this kind of work. But things have shifted. and that is enough to keep going.
Which of these five signs have you noticed, even quietly?
With love, Kitija 🤍
