Kitija Ozolina · Awareness Mentor for Mothers
She is still there. She just stopped speaking at full volume when she learned you were not listening.
When people talk about inner child work, it can sound like something that is not for you. But the little girl who learned what love felt like is still shaping how you live as an adult.
This is how.
Your inner voice did not disappear. She went quiet because every time she spoke, something overrode her. someone else's needs, someone else's reaction, the old fear of what happens when you follow what you actually know. She is still there. These practices help you find her again.
Not techniques. Just invitations. You do not have to do all four. just notice which one your body says yes to.
Ask before you act
Before you say yes to something, before you send the message, before you make the decision. pause for ten seconds and ask yourself: what do I actually want here? Not what is expected. Not what is easier. What do I want.
The answer might not come right away. That is fine. You are just practising the question. The voice gets louder the more you ask.
Notice what your body says first
Before the mind makes a case, the body already knows. The tightening before you say yes to something you should say no to. The lightness when you are about to do something that is actually right for you.
Start watching for those physical signals. Not to follow them blindly. just to register that they are there. Your body is often the first place your inner voice speaks.
Write without editing
Ten minutes. No rereading while you write. No fixing. Just what comes out. The inner voice does not operate at the speed of a polished thought. she comes through in the messy parts. The thing you write and then almost cross out. The sentence that surprises you.
You are not journaling for insight. You are giving her a channel. That is enough.
Spend time where no one needs anything from you
She cannot speak over the noise of everyone else's needs. Even fifteen minutes alone. properly alone, not scrolling. creates the space where she starts to surface. A walk without a podcast. Sitting in the car before you go inside.
This is not selfish. This is how you maintain access to yourself. And the version of you that can hear herself is a better mother, partner, and person than the one who has not heard from herself in months.
She knows. She has probably always known. You can feel it sometimes. the quiet certainty underneath all the noise, the thing you knew before you talked yourself out of it.
Getting back to her is not a dramatic process. It is slow, and it is quiet, and it happens in very small moments. But those moments add up. And one day you realise you have been listening for a while.
She knows. She has always known. The question is whether you will listen.
Start with one moment of asking. That is enough for today.
What is the quietest voice inside you trying to say, the one you keep explaining away?
With love, Kitija 🤍
