Kitija Ozolina ยท Awareness Mentor for Mothers
There is no good mother and bad mother. There are different modes, and they shift depending on what is happening inside you.
You are doing your best. You know that. But some days your best feels distant from who you want to be as a mother.
The mode you are mothering from matters more than the effort you are putting in. This quiz helps you see which one is running you right now.
There are no right answers here. There is no score. Read each option and notice which one actually lands. not which one you want to choose. The one that makes you a little uncomfortable is usually the honest one.
01
When you make a decision about your child today. a rule, a consequence, a boundary. what is the feeling underneath it?
02
Your child is upset. crying, melting down, pushing back. Your first instinct is:
03
What is the feeling that has been underneath most of your parenting today?
04
Your child pushes back. argues, refuses, says something sharp. Your body's first response is:
05
If you are honest with yourself, right now: how okay do you actually feel?
06
When your child seems happy today, how do you feel?
07
At the end of today, what will tell you whether you were a good mother?
Look at which answer felt most true, most often. That is your current mode โ not your only mode, and not a verdict. Just a signal.
Survival Mode
You are doing the minimum to get through. Not because you don't care. because you have nothing left. This is not a parenting failure. It is a signal about what you need.
Survival mode says: I am running on empty. What would it take to refill, even a little? Not a big change. One small thing.
Fear Mode
You are parenting from anxiety. Watching for what can go wrong. Over-controlling, over-managing, struggling to let things just unfold. Not because you don't trust your child. Because something in you doesn't feel safe.
Fear mode says: I need reassurance that I cannot give myself through managing outcomes. The anxiety is real. it is pointing somewhere inside you, not at your child.
Guilt Mode
You are compensating. Over-giving, over-explaining, avoiding conflict because the guilt when they're unhappy is too much. You are carrying a debt you feel you can never fully pay.
Guilt mode says: I don't feel like enough. The giving is not the problem. the belief underneath it is. You cannot give your way out of that feeling.
Connected Mode
You are present. Grounded enough. You are not perfect. you are not trying to be. But you are here, and your child can feel the difference.
Connected mode is not a permanent state. You will leave it. What matters is that you can return.
One next step
Whatever mode you recognised yourself in. ask one question before the day is over:
What does the mother in this mode actually need right now?
Not what your child needs. What you need. Even if you can only give yourself a small version of it today.
The mode you are in is not who you are. It is what you are carrying right now.
Survival mode, fear mode, guilt mode. none of these are failures. They are signals. The question is what they are pointing to.
Which emotional mode have you been mothering from most lately?
