Kitija Ozolina · Awareness Mentor for Mothers

How Much of You Has Been Lost to Motherhood?

Not a crisis. A quiet check-in. Some things disappear so slowly that you only notice when you look directly.

You used to know what you liked. What made you feel like yourself. At some point you stopped being sure.

This is about finding that thread again.

The quiet check-in

If someone asked what you enjoy. just you. what would you say?

If you had to pause for a long time before answering, or reached for something that used to be true. that pause is worth noticing. It is not emptiness. It is information.

When you describe yourself, what comes out first?

A role. mum, wife, someone's someone. Roles are real. And they can quietly replace something. Both things are true at once.

Can you remember what you wanted. for yourself. before you became a mother?

If it feels like a long time ago, or like a different person. she is not gone. She went quiet because quiet was necessary. She is still in there.

Do you have opinions that are not about your children?

If most of your thoughts are about them, or for them. that does not make you a bad mother. It means motherhood has taken up a lot of the bandwidth. That is worth looking at.

Is there a physical space that belongs just to you?

A corner, a time of day, even five minutes that are yours. Space is not a luxury. It is where you remember you exist.

When was the last time you did something just because it made you feel good?

Not because it was healthy, not because it helped anyone else. Just because you wanted to. Wanting things for yourself is not selfish. It is what it feels like to be a person.

Do you know what your body needs. separate from what your family needs?

Not just sleep or food. What actually restores you. If that answer is blurry, it has probably been a while since anyone asked. including you.

Do you have friendships where you are not performing any role?

Where you are just you, not someone's mother or someone's partner. Friendships where the real version of you is welcome.

When you imagine your life feeling different. can you picture what that would actually look like?

Not just less stressed. But more yourself. If you cannot picture it, that is a sign something needs tending. not because you have failed, but because you have been very focused elsewhere.

Does it feel like there is a version of you that is waiting?

Waiting for the children to be older, for things to calm down, for permission. She is not a fantasy. She is the real version of you that adapted out of necessity. She can come back.

She didn't disappear. She's just been waiting.

Some of what you answered today is just information. It is not a verdict. The noticing itself is the beginning of something.

When did you last do something that felt like you, not a role?

With love, Kitija 🤍
