The Version of You That Exists After the Healing

Not a different person. The same person, with more room inside.

There is a version of you that existed before you became everything to everyone. She did not disappear. She just went quiet.

This is about finding her again.

Healing is not a destination. It is a direction. These are not the finish line. they are signposts that say you are moving in the right one.

Four signs of change.

You might already be living some of these without having named them yet.

01

You stop bracing for what is not coming.

Things are calm. And you are actually calm. not performing calm while scanning for the thing that will break it. There is a difference between holding yourself together and actually being at rest. The second one is quieter. Less effort. A kind of settledness that is not a pose.

You notice this most in ordinary moments. A quiet evening that is just a quiet evening. Good news that lands as good news, not as a warning that something will go wrong next. Your body starts to believe that peace is allowed. not just permitted, but actually possible.

02

Your reactions have more space in them.

Not that you stop feeling things. But between the feeling and the response, there is a little more room. A moment where you are the one watching rather than being swept. You still get angry. You still get hurt. But you are slightly more choosing what happens next.

This is one of the clearest signs. You snap less. not because you are suppressing more, but because there is a pause that was not there before. That pause is not discipline. It is the nervous system learning, slowly, that it does not have to react in the old way. The old pattern gets slower. The new one gets more frequent.

03

You start to know what you want.

Not in some grand life-purpose way. In smaller ways. You know what you want for dinner. You know what you actually think about something. You notice when a yes is a real yes and when it is not.

When you have spent years in survival mode. reading the room, managing others, making yourself useful and acceptable. your own wanting gets buried. As the survival mode loosens, the wanting comes back. Not as demands. Just as a quiet knowing. I want this. I don't want that. That knowing is a sign. Your self is returning.

04

You become easier to be around.

Not easier in the sense of smaller or more accommodating. Easier in the sense of more present. People feel met when they are with you, rather than managed. You are actually listening rather than waiting to know if something needs to be fixed. You are actually there.

This one often surprises people. They expect healing to make them more selfish. more focused on themselves, less available to others. In practice, the opposite. When you are less defended, less performing, less managing, there is more of you available. Presence is a form of generosity. And it comes from being resourced, not depleted.

This version of you is not a fantasy. She is not someone you have to construct or become. She is who you are when the old protections are not running so hard.

She is already in there. The work is just. making more room for her to move.

"You won't be a different person. You'll be the same person with more room inside."

That room is where everything changes. Not you. the space around you inside yourself.

What would the next version of you need to release first?

With love, Kitija 🤍
